Unlike some other reviews out there it completely justifies it's criticisms while still recognizing the overall merits of the game.
Pretty significant difference between the PS3 and 360 versions. Hopefully it gets optimized more for the American release.
Often times websites turn footage over to other companies to make the video compilations and then add their dialogue on top of it. It's still Gamespot's fault, they should of caught it, but it is likely an outside company put the spoiler in.
I might say the PS3 has a slight advantage in this particular group of screenshots, but it means nothing since screenshots won't tell you how solid the framerate is and whether or not there is screen tearing.
From Famitsu this is actually a damn good score. Maybe now Uncharted will move a few more units in Japan
He's wrong about things so often it's hard to take him seriously. It's just a matter of deciding how he's wrong, will Uncharted sell more than he's predicting or less? I hope more, but you never know.
His total ignorance with regards to LBP's multiple GOTY awards is also pretty damn funny. Not to mention Killzone 2 will likely end up with quite a few GOTY noms itself.
So they start the review by nitpicking, then move on to making criticisms not in line with any other publication, gloss over the best aspects of the game, and finish by giving the multiplayer just a few lines of analysis and completely ignoring the cinema mode.
Stay classy GameDaily.
Whenever a really masterful game comes around the first reviews always say it, and then the smaller websites start picking it apart because it's edgy to go against the more elitist, and more trafficked, websites.
At this rate there is no way U2 will maintain it's current metascore. Not that it really matters but I can't help but feel that, in an age when Metacritic gets so much publicity, every once in a while quality games get gypped by Meta's funky math and oddball websites loo...
Someone needs to teach this guy at Spong that underneath the metascore is a listing of publications that give games scores and that out of the nearly thirty publications reviewing U2 only three are PTOM's.
And once this person is done teaching this guy how to use Metacritic he needs to give the writer a few old issues of PTOM because anyone whose been reading it for the last couple of years know they haven't been lenient on PS exclusives.
Case in point: the origina...
"Still, after several hours, a few minor flaws become obvious. The basic game mechanics haven't changed much from the original Uncharted; walk down a mostly linear path for a little while, keeping an eye out for clues or clambering over obstacles, then get involved in a firefight, requiring you to shoot back while crouching behind some crates. In the two years since the original game, the growing use of open-ended environments has made games more realistic; this feels more like a scripte...
LBP showed that websites were willing to give GOTY honors to Sony games. If Uncharted 2 is so much better than I can see it walking away with some serious acclaim by years end.
Based on the demo I played I can tell you right now the graphics are not impressive. The art design is good, but not the graphics. I'm not sold on the gameplay yet either. It's extremely simple and combat doesn't feel rewarding at all. I also find the dialogue hit and miss even though the voice acting is stellar.
Granted it's only the demo, but I do feel as if the media is blowing this game out of proportion.
Going by sales alone, yeah Gears should be at the top. Personally I think Uncharted should take the top spot but this is a list with a lot of wiggle room depending on how you want to define best new IP.
If you go by critical acclaim the best new IP is Uncharted, followed by BioShock, LittleBigPlanet, Gears of War, and Mass Effect.
(Going by the latest Metascores and excluding Rock Band and downloadable games.)
Doesn't surprise me that a lot of the trophies would be accessible for them. And it's fine with me because I'll get another platinum out of this.
I don't see a thing in the art direction that interests me.
I'm sorry but what does Halo have to do with this article?
Also the Uncharted bashing was unnecessary and inconsistent with the praise they gave it in their original review two years ago.
9.3 isn't a bad score, but go back and watch other GT reviews for major releases and it quickly becomes apparent they have inconsistent standards and frequent hypocrisy.
And yes that spoiler was extremely unprofessional. Especially when they know this game's story is central to the experience.
*runs off to smack head against desk until he forgets the crucial plot information*
sandbox =/= better game
I'll take a linear experience over spending half the game walking/driving from place to place any day of the week. It's easy to say a game should be less linear, but following that though with engaging game design is another matter entirely.
Every criticism is vague and the review itself barely mentions that there is a multiplayer component. I would have expected a more thorough review from IGN UK, very dissapointing.
